A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the basic education requirement, you must have for the GS-09:
One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE at the GS-09 level for this position is defined as independently operating emission and mass spectrometers including calibration, trouble shooting and preventative maintenance. OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent degree in a field related to this position or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to Master's Degree, LL.B. or J.D., if related.
GS-11:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for this position is defined as Independently operating emission and mass spectrometers including calibration, trouble shooting and preventative maintenance. Extensive knowledge in the analysis of metals and metal alloys including wet chemical techniques. OR EDUCATION: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
SOME SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE IS PERMISSIBLE.
GS-12:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for this position is defined as independently operating emission and mass spectrometers including calibration, trouble shooting and preventative maintenance. Extensive knowledge in the analysis of metals and metal alloys including wet chemical techniques. Knowledge of microscopic techniques for the measuring of the grain structure in different metals and metal alloys.
